In Depth Review | Nume Flat Iron

♥ NuMe The Brand – Cruelty Free & Eco Friendly

NuMe is the creation of a young business woman from Germany named Sabrina Maren. Sabrina created the brand to provide salon quality tools – not just for the professional, but the everyday person, too.

The brand name was chosen because she felt like a ‘New Me’ when she tested these tools on her own hair. NuMe now sells over 200 styling products, ships worldwide, and has gained huge popularity online.

All NuMe products are 100% cruelty-free. They’re also eco friendly, and avoid the use of harmful materials in their production process.

Why The Megastar?

Some think the Megastar is the best Nume flat iron. It’s often compared to another in the NuMe range – the Fashionista hair straightener. Both have tourmaline ceramic plates, but the Megastar has the added bonus of more advanced features – including automatic shut off, and a digital display.

♥ Flexible Temperature | 190°F Up To 450°F

Unlike the Sultra flat iron, the temperature on this straightener is flexible. When you turn it on it heats up automatically to 360°F. Set it on the lowest heat setting of 190°F, or get it super hot at the highest 450°F (or somewhere in between) to suit your hair type and style preferences.

It’s easy to adjust the temperature using the arrow buttons under the digital light up display. The currently set temperature is easy to read on the digital screen.

In a hurry in the morning? This Nume flat iron heats up very quickly – just approximately 30 seconds to get it all the way up to 450°F, saving you valuable time.

Tip: Don’t set it too low because you may have to pass through your hair multiple times to get it straight – this is obviously not healthy. Try not to set it too high either when you just start using it. Set it somewhere in the middle and test different temperatures to find what works best for you!

♥ Auto Shut Off Function

Unlike a lot of straighteners on the market, the NuMe Megastar flat iron has an automatic shut off function.

Sometimes when you’re rushing while getting ready you can forget to turn off your styling tool. No worries with this model – it automatically switches off after 60 minutes. This substantially reduces the risk of fires and resulting injuries!

This Nume flat iron, of course, also has a manual shut off feature. The on/off button is in the inside so you won’t accidentally turn it off while styling.

♥ 100% Pure Floating Tourmaline Ceramic Plates

The 100% pure tourmaline ceramic plates provide long lasting results. Pure ceramic stone plates (not just ceramic coated) help to prevent tugging on the hair, making it easy to straighten with just one pass through of the iron.

Tourmaline releases negative ions that counteract the positive ions in dry hair for a smoother, shinier, and less frizzy appearance.

The 1 inch floating plates have a suspension system that compresses your hair while you straighten. The floating system acts almost like a cushion for smooth, no-pull styling.

Floating plates straighten as close to your hair as possible. They can bounce slightly when you press down so they don’t break or tug on your hair.

♥ Far Infrared & Ionic Technology + Ion Booster

The negative ion conditioning technology helps to tackle frizz and seal moisture in your hair’s cuticles.

A lot of modern flat irons have ionic technology. But this Nume flat iron sets itself apart here. It also features an ion booster – offering 1000% more negative ion conditioning technology for an even healthier and moisturised look.

The added far-infrared heat strip and technology keep your hair healthy and soft by targeting the cortex of the hair follicles. This helps style your hair faster and with less heat exposure. (However, it probably won’t look as healthy as your hair would with the RUSK CTC flat iron).

♥ Easy To Use & Dual Voltage | Good For Travel

This Nume flat iron is ergonomically designed and has a soft touch finish for easy use. The straightener feels sleek – some compare it to the feel of NARS packaging. But it can get dirty fast, so you may want to get the black color if you’re worried about it getting dirty.

This NuMe Megastar flat iron is also dual voltage 110-240V 50/60Hz. The plug is US compatible, but it can also be used abroad (you may need an adapter, but they’re generally very inexpensive).

The long 8 ft, 9 inch swivel power cord fully rotates, so you can easily reach the back of your hair without tangling.

♥ Straighten And Curl With This One Nume Flat Iron

Just like the CHI and GVP models we’ve previously reviewed, this hair straightener can act as a multipurpose tool.

With beveled, rounded plates, the Nume Megastar flat iron works not just for straightening, but also for curling, too. You can save some money – no need to buy a separate curler! Plus, bringing only one tool saves space in your suitcase when you travel. The curls from this straightener are similar to those you’d achieve with a 25mm (1 inch) wand.

♥ One Year Warranty For Peace of Mind

The Nume Megastar flat iron is protected by a 1 year limited manufacturer’s warranty, which begins from the date of purchase. There’s nothing more frustrating than buying a styling tool that breaks a few months later. So much money down the drain. The one year warranty gives you peace of mind that it’s not going to happen this time!

It’s not quite as impressive as the lifetime warranty available with the Sutra flat iron, but it’s still a pretty good coverage period.

Be sure to purchase from an authorized seller on Amazon to ensure you’re covered under the warranty and always retain proof of purchase. You will need to pay the shipping and handling fee to send it off for a replacement. Check out the full warranty conditions here.

Customer Feedback | Pros and Cons

The vast majority of reviews are highly positive. Multiple customers said this Nume model is the best flat iron they’ve ever used.

♥ Brand Compare | NuMe Vs Chi & GHD

A lot of reviewers compared it to two similar flat iron brands – CHI and GHD. Overall, the consensus from the reviews is that Nume is better than those brands for most customers, especially if they fit certain criteria.

One customer noted she likes the NuMe better because it doesn’t drag or tug on her hair like her Chi used to. Another said her hair used to get caught in the Chi ceramic.

A professional hair stylist said she thinks the NuMe is amazing, and prefers it to Sedu or Chi. (However, the Solano flat iron is probably more popular with professionals).  One review even thinks it’s much better than Chi for curling hair.

Two customers said the Nume is superior to the GHD for thick (and coarse or kinky) hair. Another said her hair looks smoother and softer, and glides better through her fingers, after using the NuMe compared to the GHD.

♥ Works Well For Curling

Many customers like to use this Nume model to curl or flip their hair, too. One reviewer thinks it’s the best hair straightener for curling hair. She says the curls look nice and they last a long time.

Another customer with very straight, fine hair said she only uses it for curling and she really likes it. The curls lasts until the next day for her – with other flat irons her curls only hold for a few hours!

♥ Heats Quickly & Doesn’t Burn Your Hair

Customers are impressed that it really does heat in just 30 seconds. Others are glad it has the auto shut off function because they’re quite forgetful when it comes to switching off their appliances.

One reviewer said it doesn’t burn her hair – even on the highest 450°F setting. However, another said it did singe her hair at the 450°F temperature – but it works really well on 360-370°F to straighten without damaging her hair.

It’s best to play around with the temperature settings to see what works for you.

♥ Softer, Healthier Hair – Especially For Thick Hair

Overall, it seems to work great for thick hair – softening, increasing shine, and calming flyaways. The 1 inch size works well for short, medium, or long hair.

One customer with voluminous, thick, frizzy hair said her friends notice her hair looks sleeker and straighter. Another with this hair type said it works really well, but requires a couple of pass throughs to achieve the straight-hair look.

If you’re sensitive to any pulling, this is a good option – it doesn’t snag at the hair. One customer bought it because of the infrared technology, and it worked out well for her. She says her hair feels noticeably softer and healthier after using this NuMe flat iron.

Some customers with natural hair like the iron, but a lot said they prefer titanium styling tools – they tend to work better with kinky, coarse hair. Check out the Cortex Steamliner model if you have natural hair.

∇ Doesn’t Have Cool Tip Technology

Some note you need to be careful because the tip gets very hot. Unlike many modern flat irons, the NuMe Megastar does not have cool tip technology.

One reviewer said she burned her fingers more than once while using this straightener. You might want to buy a heat glove to protect your hands.

∇ Stopped Working?!

A few reviews mentioned issues with this flat iron not working after a few weeks or months of use.

However, it doesn’t seem to be an issue for the vast majority of customers. One reviewer said she has had her NuMe flat iron for two years and it’s still working perfectly. It comes with a one year limited warranty if you run into problems.
